The Sandboys
If you ever wanted to know what it would sound like if The Beautiful South were being slapped in the face by Tom McRae to the soundtrack of Crowded House songs, played on the ukulele by Leonard Cohen – well, welcome to The Sandboys!
Our style is what we call Cellele music – quirky songs that sonically range from the cheerfulness of the ukulele to the broody and emotive cello (and everything in between). They are very lyrical and cover all aspects of human idiosyncrasies – honest and wry but also uplifting and full of hooks.
The Sandboys have been regulars at the Surf Cafe in Tynemouth for the past few years, and have recently supported Chas and Dave, The James Hunter Six and The Amy Winehouse Experience – A.K.A. Lioness, at the O2 Academy over the past few months.
Their new EP, which is entitled Wish For The Best is released this month, showcases perfectly the unique style of Cellele music.
A few quotes about the band:
“Wish For the Best is a brilliant song.”
Emil Hadji Panzov, Industry professional
“An excellent set of original songs of love, loss and all stops in between with the beautiful accompaniment of Ben Harrison’s cello.”
Phil Mitchell, The Surf Café, Tynemouth.
“Drawing from influences we imagine to be Crowded House and Elvis Costello, The Sandboys managed to delightfully entertain with their craft of major/minor, augmented and diminished ditties, which were cleverly introduced with Mark Miller’s self-effacing humour.”
